If you’re like most people, one of the first things you’ll do when planning your wedding day will be to find the perfect venue. It’s likely that you don’t know where to start since really, you’ve most likely never planned a wedding before! Fear not, because we at Oh So Classy are here to help and give you all the tips you need to find the venue that’s just perfect for you and your love.
Tip #1: Know your date and if you’re flexible with it
You might be a couple that must get married the first Saturday of October and that’s okay! But keep in mind while you’re looking that not every venue will have that date open for you. If you’re flexible with your date, it might be a tad easier finding a venue that you like and that’s available! When checking to get a venue walk-through, make sure ahead of time that your day is open so you’re not wasting your time.
Tip #2: Figure out how many people you’re planning to invite
All venues have a maximum capacity, although some are bigger than others, and you have to know what yours is. The worst thing that could happen is falling in love with a venue where the capacity is 100 and you have 150 guests coming. Once you know your rough guest count, you can already narrow down your venue choices substantially which makes the processes of finding one that less stressful.
Tip #3: Know what your style is
There are so many different and unique venues no matter where you live that it’s hard to narrow them down. Talk to your groom about what he is envisioning as well as what you want. Barns, hotels, banquet halls, gardens, there are so many options. Before you choose, you can always discuss where you want your ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception (indoors or outdoors). This will help as well finding somewhere that fits best with your style and how you want your day to go. Trust me when I say that this will be the biggest factor in narrowing down choices for you, in a good way!
Tip #4: Stick with your budget
Venues will be one of the most expensive things you’ll have to worry about when planning your day- and for good reason! However, some venues are much more expensive than others and you should know ahead of time how much you’d like to spend. Venues cost different amounts depending where you live, so find out what the average is and see where you land. Follow the tip below and you may find out that your originally thought “over-budget” venue may end up saving you a few dollars in the long run…
Tip #5: Get all the information
All venues are different and offer different things. Some venues strictly rent out the space and that’s all, meaning it would be your responsibility to bring in all outside rentals. Others have chairs, tables, linens, or more that could be included which could save you in the long run. Also see if they offer in-house catering and how that would tie in with your food budget. When breaking down costs, you may find a venue that includes much more than originally thought!
